Ford GT (2005-2006) Buyer’s Guide: Specs, Value and What to Look For

In 2005, Ford built a modern tribute to the car that beat Ferrari at Le Mans four years running. The GT took the shape and spirit of the 1960s GT40 and rebuilt it with a supercharged V8, a top speed past 200 mph, and an analogue, manual-only character that has since made it a genuine collector car.

Just over 4,000 were built across 2005 and 2006. This guide covers the full specification, where values sit today, how it compares with its contemporaries, and what matters most when you buy one.

Performance in context

The GT was built to break 200 mph, and did, on a supercharged 5.4-litre V8 driving through a six-speed manual. Against the mid-2000s supercar field it held its own on power and outran most on character.

The market: what a 2005 Ford GT is worth now

Ford GT values have climbed steadily as the car matured into a modern classic. Standard cars in good order typically trade around $300,000 to $500,000, with the four heritage colours, and especially low-mileage, fully-documented cars, commanding the top of the range and beyond.

What to look for when buying

  • Original specification — unmodified cars with original wheels, exhaust and supercharger pulley are worth most.
  • The four options — McIntosh stereo, painted calipers, BBS forged wheels and painted stripes; fully-optioned cars are preferred.
  • Mileage and history — documented low-mileage cars lead; look for service records and any supercharger work.
  • Supercharger and cooling — confirm both are healthy and unmodified.
  • Paint and accident history — check for prior damage and repaint at this value level.
